More Than a Food Pantry. A Tradition of Humanity.
What if an institution could serve its community not just for a few months or years, but for generations?
A permanent place where generosity becomes shared responsibility.
Throughout Islamic history, communities developed charitable institutions supported by donations and endowments.
The Takeya tradition represents this approach to compassion: a permanent place where generosity becomes a shared community responsibility.
Takeya of Houston was envisioned to bring this historic model into a modern American city.
Some provided daily meals.
Others welcomed travelers or offered temporary refuge.
All were sustained by donations and endowments.
